When I write my monthly message, I often wonder how many 7280 Rotarians actually read it. I am not even sure every Club sends the link to each of its members. So some members probably don’t even know I write a monthly message. If you are the District Governor,  you hope members read the District website. But you soon learn that doesn’t happen as often as you would like.

April is magazine month. Every item noted above can be found in the April issue of The Rotarian. The magazine is one of the communication vehicles intended to connect all of us. That is also the intent of our District website and monthly newsletter. But we cannot have that connecting experience if we do not read those items.

I encourage each of you to read The Rotarian. When PDG Lee sends you the link to the monthly district newsletter, forward that link to all of your members. Give them a fair chance to know what is happening in the world of Rotary. Consider devoting one minute at each meeting to something that is in one of our publications.

As your District Governor I only have two more of these messages to compose. I struggle with each one trying to convey some worthwhile message without boring the reader. For those of you who do read them, thank you. I truly appreciate your interest. Now let’s involve more Rotarians in the reading of our publications and let’s celebrate Rotary magazine month.

DG Ron

But You Need To Do It Now!!!

The deadline to register for the District Conference is April 21st. I really hope we have a tremendous turnout to end this Rotary year. If you haven’t made your reservation yet time is running out. Please take a moment to do it now. This party and celebration will be so much less without you there.

DG Ron

Remembering Our Own

Each year at District Conference, we remember with somber hearts our fellow Rotarians who have been taken away from us within the past year.

This letter is to reach out and make sure that everyone of them is remembered in this special way.

District Governor Ron Errett has asked that a special tribute be printed and handed out at the District Conference for the service, that will done at the Saturday night dinner at the Conference, May 15.

Please provide the name, club and a biography of each deceased Rotarian within the last year, as well as a picture by April 21, 2010.  Please e-mail the information to bigbuck55@zoominternet.net  or send to:

  Mike Visconti
  103 Bellefield Drive
  Butler, PA 16001

I will try to do them proud.  I have some names including three past District Governor’s, but please don’t assume I have the information on someone you knew.

Thank you for contributing the above information, and see you on May 14 &15.

DGN Mike Visconti

Nominations Sought for 2013-2014 DG

All clubs in District 7280 are invited to suggest nominations for the 2013-2014 District Governor by July 30, 2010. The suggestions shall be submitted in the form of a resolution adopted at a regular meeting of the club naming a suggested candidate.  The candidate must have served a full year as a club president and agree, in writing, to having his or her name suggested.  The resolution shall be certified by the club secretary.  A club may suggest a candidate for governor-nominee designee who is a member of another club, as long as the suggesting club first obtains the concurrence of the candidate’s club.  The Nomination Committee will consider all suggestions from the clubs.  Suggestions should be submitted to DGE Chris Fiely, 316 North Brown Street, Titusville, PA 16354.

Help The Rotary Foundation Cut Costs and Receive
Your Tax Receipt Faster!

What?

The Rotary Foundation will soon be e-mailing tax receipts to those that have registered their e-mail address with Rotary International. E-receipts will be e-mailed from GiftAcknowledqement@rotary.org . We recommend adding this address to your list of contacts to prevent it from being directed to a spam mail folder.

Why?

Having your e-mail on file will mean receiving tax receipts faster, saving paper and postage for the foundation. For Rotarians, it will also make registering on the Member Access Portal at www.rotary.org an almost instantaneous process.  Here you can access your contribution history make a new contribution or access certain reports.

How?

If you have not registered your e-mail address at Rotary International, please ask a club officer to update your member profile on the Member Access Portal at rotary.org. Updates can also be e-mailed to data@rotary.org . Once your e-mail is registered, you will automatically start receiving your tax receipts via e-mail. Hard copy receipts will continue to be sent to those without a registered e-mail.

We Are Getting There, But Will We Contribute $100 Per Member?

Giving to the Rotary Foundation’s Annual Program Fund is getting better.  But we must pick up the pace if we are to match and hopefully exceed last year’s giving and achieve $100 per Rotarian.

The chart below is from Rotary International as of March 31, 2010. The Sharon Rotary Club leads the district with Annual Program Fund giving of $211.71 per Rotarian, followed by Slippery Rock at $211.33 and Butler at $187.25 per Rotarian.  The following questions need to be answered:

  • Can Edinboro maintain their great start of $132.42 per member through the entire Rotary year? – No, they have been beaten out by Sharon with $211.71.
  • Which club will be the first to average $100 per Rotarian? – Edinboro – September 16, 2009.
  • Which club will be the first to achieve “Every Rotarian, Every Year” Recognition averaging $100 per Rotarian with every active Rotarian making a contribution? – Edinboro – September 16th, now joined by Sharon, New Wilmington and Portersville-Prospect.
  • Which club will be the first “100% Sustaining Member Club” with every member contributing a minimum of $100?
  • Will any club exceed Sharon Rotary Club’s last year average giving of $249.46?
  • Will this be the year that District 7280 achieves $100 per Rotarian?

While we are getting there, we have not yet reached OUR goal of $100 per member.

Secretary’s Corner

IMPORTANT: Once again this year I will be able to allow you to update your Club Roster before I go to print with the District Directory. If you feel you have had substantial changes, additions or deletions since you submitted your roster in February, please submit a new version to me prior to April 15th.  If I do not receive an update from you I will print the roster that I received in February 2010.

MORE IMPORTANT: When I reviewed the rosters that I received last month I found several common errors that I had to correct for you. Please review your rosters and check for the following common errors and if found please resend it to me with your corrections:

1)     We do not use periods in the first four columns to save space

2)     We use only approved US Postal abbreviations for addresses

3)     We do not use parentheses in phone numbers

4)     We use only the approved abbreviations for the PH column,

a.      RFSM

b.      PHF for $1000.00 level

c.      PH+ the number but do not use the F

5)  Do not change the file name and use Arial 10pt type

DGE Chris Fiely has asked me to have his 2010-11 District Directories ready for distribution to all clubs at the District Conference in West Middlesex on May 14th.

The updated club roster should be e-mailed as an attachment to Peter Richdale at peterjody@zoominternet.net in the standard Excel format only!

Peter Richdale, Co-Secretary/Treasurer

Memorial Service for PDG Ted Walwik

There will be a Celebration of the Life of PDG Ted Walwik on Sunday, May 3, 2010 at 3:00 PM at Russell Wright Alumni House on the campus of Slippery Rock University.  The Alumni House is near the Morrow Way entrance to campus, which is off South Main Street north of Kiester Road and south of Maltby Drive (where Old Main is located).  There is no parking enforcement on campus on the weekend, but parking near the Alumni House may be occupied by folks attending the concert at Miller Auditorium which starts earlier.  You may wish to arrive a bit early for the Walwik celebration to allow time to park.  The Alumni House is handicapped accessible.  Call PDG Hank Anna at 724 748 4664 for further information.

See You at District Conference!
