Brenner is a Professor of Biology at Grove City College, teaching courses in ecology and natural resource management. Dr. Brenner has authored over 300 articles in professional scientific journals and co-edited eleven books. He received his B.S. degree in 1958 from Thiel College and his M.S. and PhD degrees in 1960 and 1964, respectively, from the Pennsylvania State University. Fred is a native of Sharon, Pennsylvania. He married Patricia "Pat" Gavin in Toledo, Ohio on August 26, 1967. They have two children - Elaine E. Brenner Zalewski, who teaches biology and chemistry County College of Morris in Randolph, New Jersey and Cheryl Beth Jones, who is a special education teacher in the Indian Valley School System south of Dover, Ohio. Fred and Pat have three grandchildren and two step grandchildren. An active member of numerous professional scientific societies, he has served as President of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Wildlife Society, the Pennsylvania Academy of Science and the National Association of Academies of Science. He is an elected fellow of both the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Ohio Academy of Science and received the Life Time Achievement Award from the Pennsylvania Academy of Science and the Distinguished Service Award from the National Academies of Science. Fred has published over 300 scientific papers in professional journals and has co-edited 13 books on a variety of environmental issues. Always active in his community, he serves on the Executive Boards of the French Creek Council, BSA, President, French Creek Council, BSA, the Mercer County Regional Planning Commission, Mercer County Conservation District and as Chairman of the Mercer County Solid Waste Authority. Fred received the District Award of Merit, the Silver Beaver and the 2004 Distinguished Citizen Award from Boy Scouts of America. He also received the Community Service Award by the Grove City United Way and the Florence MacKenzie Campus Community Service Award from Grove City College. Fred joined the Grove City Rotary Club in 1992 and served as President in 1999-2000. He has also served as an Assistant Governor (2003-2006) and, in 2005-2006, he served as co-chainman of the District’s Water, Health and Hunger Task Force. In 2005 he attended the Zone 27 & 28 Institute in Madison, WI, Zone 27 and 28 in Niagara Falls, Canada and the 2007 International Assembly in San Diego, CA. Fred is a Paul Harris Fellow + 4 and a James E. West Fellow of the Boy Scouts of America. |
